The document above is notes I took during the 2023 San Francisco National convention. In the top paragraph I took notes about the NSPA and news literacy during one of the sessions. I learned how to avoid bad journalism habits and the legalities of the profession.
Law, Ethics, and News Literacy
Yellow Journalism, sensationalism, bias all these things are bad for journalism. Good journalism is accurate journalism which means getting all sides/angles of a story. As a sports journalist I take pride in producing accurate information to the public. Take for example "Hot Takes" is something many sports networks use for coverage. "Hot Takes" are nowadays what many sports journalists use to get clicks and they mostly present assumptions which are not factual. As journalists we are not supposed to lie to the public. If we lie then that hurts our reputation as the truth-seekers of society.

This is a website I used for an assignment in American Government last year but it taught me a lot about how some journalists use different types of bias within their reports.
American Government Class
When we (My American Government class from last year)got done with our regular curriculum for the state of Missouri we looked to a unit about News Bias. Ever since this unit of class I have taken a personal oath of journalism not to be biased whenever I am doing anything journalist related.
First Amendment
The First Amendment gives me the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press which allows for student media to be possible. Without the freedom of the press we wouldn't be able to have yearbook, student newspapers, and just any student publication. The founding fathers blessed us with the first amendment to be able to have these media competitions.
How to Avoid Bias
During my school's broadcasts announcers are taught to be unbiased on both sides which means doing research on both sides. Sometimes our own coach will ask for the other coach's answers so we keep their answers confidential until the broadcast.
